After Mauricio announced his retirement from English football, TWTD and myself both ran sections on the respective sites where people could e-mail across their messages for Mauricio and I would pass them on. This was done and I posted over a book of messages to MT where he was living in Argentina.

Here are a selection of those comments:

Great control, always the best technique in the division, not being beaten for headers by bigger men and that goal against Norwich at the North stand end - wish you could have been with us in the Premiership.

Thanks for the memories!!!! - Good luck for the future

As an Ipswich fan living in Ireland, I would like to wish you and your family every best wish and success following your retirement. You showed remarkable integrity in leaving West Ham, and all Ipswich fans know only too well the quality you had when you played. You are an Ipswich Town Legend.

Thank you for all you put into our football club, you wore the blue shirt with pride and any player who scores against Norwich will always be special to me.

Good luck in your retirement, you will always be remembered highly by all town fans you always played your heart out for the blues and were a good honest pro and would sweat blue blood for the town (we could do with your tough tackling now in defence haven't had anyone like you since you left)  I will always remember the morning after the play-offs against Sheffield Utd if the memory serves me well when we had been defeated and on the front page of the East Anglian Daily Times was a picture of you in tears..... (Exactly how I felt but to see a pro in tears moved me)

You’re a true pro and all the best for the future with your family.

You will always be welcome back at Portman Road and hopefully you will come back and watch the town sometimes.

Farewell and good luck Tano!

You were appreciated and admired during your time at spurs and I’ll always remember those goals against Liverpool and especially the one against Leeds!

Once again, good luck and thanks for the memories!

I would like to thank you for the huge amount of enjoyment you have given me during your time in England.

When you arrived in Ipswich I was 12 years old. It was mainly thanks to your passion, skill and desire to win that I am now a staunch fan of Ipswich Town.

I was sad to hear that you are leaving England as I was hoping for at least another season of you in a Town shirt.

Anyway, all the best to you and your family in the future, and again, thank you for making me love football.

I’m a lifelong Spurs fan and season ticket holder.

Thanks for all your efforts whilst at the Lane. It was always clear to me that you loved your football and were passionate about playing. You certainly had skill and enjoyed getting forward. You say you did not feel appreciated, but I certainly enjoyed watching you, and never felt you were a dirty player.

All the very best in your retirement from the English game mate, and thanks for the memories us Town fans have of you in a Blue shirt. Maybe we will see you wear it again for somebody's testimonial. Always be Blue.

As an Ipswich Town supporter I will never forget you. You were always one of my favourites and the way you battled and fought for the Town was incredible. Anyone who didn’t know you would have thought you were born and bred in Ipswich.

I always loved the way you would tear down the wing on overlaps with the likes of Bobby Petta. Looking back, although we were only in the 1st division they are great memories of a team that came so close to promotion on so many occasions.

I don’t think the Tottenham fans ever really understood you and I believe your English home is Ipswich.

I wish you all the luck for the future for you and your family. I hope you decide to visit us occasionally and when you do don’t forget to come on the pitch and give us all a wave.

What can I say? You made all us Ipswich fans very happy with your week in week out performances and 'heart on sleeve' personality. You will always be remembered as a legend at Portman Road and the goal against Norwich will always stick in my mind!

Thanks for the memories, you played with a passion that embodied the feeling on the terraces.

hope everything goes really well for you from now on - You will always receive a warm welcome at Spurs.

Heart on sleeve - man of honour; yes, you annoyed some people , but isn't that part of what you were paid to do on behalf of your club?!?

In an era where "personality" footballers are making more and more noise, and many of them with some sort of 'badboy' cultivated image, you have always been kind and thoughtful on the rare occasions you opened your mouth to the public.

I know a few hard challenges and over-competitive moments will have plenty of people glad to see the back of you but, as I'm sure you know, you also have many supporters who will always appreciate your committed work for a cause we all love.

This is the end of an era, I just want to say thank you for being a “True Blue” what you did at Ipswich was more than just football, you wore the shirt with pride and you did us proud, I still have my 1996 Home shirt with Taricco on the back! I wish you all the best in whatever you choose to do, it is a shame you couldn’t finish your season at Ipswich but you will always be remembered, thanks for making a difference,
